Overview
Runway is a New York-based AI creative platform founded in 2018 and a pioneer of AI video generation. Its current flagship is Gen-4.5, widely adopted in film, advertising, and fashion production. In July 2026 Runway added a model router, so a single Runway subscription now also surfaces third-party models such as Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 Pro, and Seedance inside the same dashboard.

The defining Gen-4 capability is reference-image character consistency — maintaining the same character look across multiple scenes, something that previously required extensive manual cleanup. Gen-4.5 generates fixed 5- or 10-second clips and supports a wide range of aspect ratios including 21:9 cinemascope.

4. Runway Characters
Generate a real-time conversational AI avatar from a single photo, running at 24 fps with roughly 1.75-second response latency.
5. 4K Output
Up to 4K resolution for text- and image-to-video.
Pricing
The top tier changed from Unlimited to Max: the price stays the same but it now grants 9,500 credits per month plus one month of rollover, and existing Unlimited subscribers move over automatically on September 1, 2026.
