Rabbit R1
Overview
Rabbit R1 is a small orange AI hardware device from Rabbit Inc. It is a one-time $199 purchase that runs an AI assistant and agent features on dedicated hardware. Rabbit said in January 2026 that it had secured new funding, and the device continues to ship and receive software updates.
Key Features
1. Dedicated Hardware
A small orange form factor with a push-to-talk button, a 2.88-inch touchscreen, and a 360-degree rotating camera. Designed to carry everywhere.
2. rabbitOS
A card-based navigation UI covering chat, timers, translation, and other assistant basics, plus "creations" for generating small software tools directly on the device.
3. DLAM
Plug the R1 into a PC over USB and the AI can drive the OS, browser, and applications — with no software to install on the computer.
4. Terminal Mode and External Agents
Terminal mode gives direct access to rabbit agent, OpenClaw, and Claude Code from the device. Hold the PTT button and speak to start or continue a Claude Code session on your computer by voice.
5. Teach Mode
Record a repeated workflow yourself and have the agent replay it.
6. rabbit cyberdeck (in development)
Rabbit says it is building a portable "rabbit cyberdeck" aimed at CLI and native agent use, with a high-quality screen and a hot-swappable mechanical keyboard.
Pricing
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| R1 hardware | $199 (one-time purchase) |
| Subscription | Core features included |
Strengths
- One-time purchase, no subscription needed
- DLAM and terminal mode let you drive PC-side agents by voice
- A genuinely unique hardware experience
Weaknesses
- Many features are already available as phone apps
- The rabbit cyberdeck successor is in development, so the R1 could be obsoleted early
- Niche product with a small third-party ecosystem
Buyer's Caution
Treat the R1 as a $199 standalone gadget and ask whether that standalone value alone is worth it. With the cyberdeck successor publicly in development, timing is worth factoring into a purchase decision.
