ChatGPT Agent (ex-Operator)
Overview
⚠️ Important: Standalone Operator has been retired In July 2025, OpenAI merged the standalone Operator into ChatGPT Agent. The operator.chatgpt.com experience was deprecated. In February 2026, it evolved into a unified ChatGPT Agent, and in March 2026 GPT-5.4 shipped with a native Computer Use API that scored 75% on OSWorld-Verified — above the 72% human average.
OpenAI Operator was originally an autonomous web-use agent for ChatGPT Pro users that drove OpenAI's own browser to fill forms, book reservations, and complete purchases. It combined GPT-4o's vision with reinforcement-learned UI interaction to perceive and operate buttons, menus, and text fields the way a person would.
Current Status
1. Merged into ChatGPT Agent (July 2025)
Operator is no longer a separate product. Its capabilities now live inside ChatGPT as ChatGPT Agent, callable directly by Pro, Plus, and Team subscribers.

Launched March 29, 2026, GPT-5.4 integrates Computer Use natively. The Responses API's computer tool gives any application screenshot-based UI control, and GPT-5.4 mini supports it as well.
3. Benchmarks
Scored 75% on OSWorld-Verified, beating the 72% human average.
