Overview

ChatGPT Agent is OpenAI's browser-using agent. The standalone Operator product was folded into ChatGPT itself, and the capability now ships as an in-ChatGPT agent that unifies web browsing, deep research, and file operations.

Computer Use

The agent reads screenshots and operates buttons, menus, and text fields the way a person would. The Responses API's computer tool exposes the same control to any application. Browser support now extends beyond Chrome to Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi.

Model

The current foundation is GPT-5.6, shipping in three tiers — Sol (flagship), Terra (balanced), and Luna (lowest cost) — with roughly a 1.05M-token API context window. On September 3, 2026, OpenAI announced its next flagship, GPT-6 Astra, claiming state-of-the-art computer-use and browsing performance — but its enterprise-first rollout means there's no confirmed timeline yet for reaching ChatGPT Agent.

Benchmarks

GPT-5.6 Sol set a new state of the art on the OSWorld 2.0 computer-use benchmark at 62.6%.

Workspace Agents

Connects to email and document repositories inside your organization, and can edit spreadsheets and fill forms in existing workspaces.

ChatGPT Work

A unified agent mode that ships finished deliverables — spreadsheets, slides, web apps — and integrates with Slack, Google Drive, and Microsoft Teams. The formerly standalone Codex is now part of the ChatGPT desktop app.

Browsing Consolidated into ChatGPT

OpenAI retired the standalone Atlas browser and folded browsing back into ChatGPT itself, so browser control is an in-app ChatGPT feature rather than a separate OpenAI-branded browser.
