OpenAI pushes into voice-agent APIs

OpenAI adds two new Realtime API models, including a lighter mini version.

Compared to before

OpenAI had spent recent months pushing reasoning, coding and cyber defense, leaving voice-agent infrastructure comparatively untouched.

What changed

Added two new Realtime API models for low-latency voice agents: GPT-Realtime-2.1 and lighter GPT-Realtime-2.1-mini (MarkTechPost).

Why it matters

Good news if you're building call-center or voice-assistant apps — more model options. If you only ship text chatbots, this barely matters.

B · Theme of the day

VS Code now shows how many tokens your GitHub Copilot usage burns.

Compared to before

Since June 2026's switch from premium-request quotas to token billing, users had no way to see usage and worried about unpredictable costs.

What changed

VS Code now surfaces per-request token consumption for GitHub Copilot, aligned with June's switch to token-based billing (Publickey).

Why it matters

Heavy users can now track spend mid-month more easily. If you barely touch Copilot, this is basically noise.
