Kensho (S&P Global)
Overview
Kensho is the AI division of S&P Global. It is not a standalone analytics app — it supplies the foundational APIs that make S&P Global data usable by LLMs and AI agents. That covers both the "make data AI-ready" side (structuring financial documents, resolving company entities, transcribing audio) and the access side (querying S&P Global data in natural language).
Key Features
Extract - Document Structuring
Converts PDF financial documents into machine-readable JSON, interpreting complex tables and layouts before emitting structured data.
Link - Entity Resolution
Matches messy or incomplete company-name data to S&P Global identifiers at a scale of millions of entities.
Scribe - Finance-Tuned Transcription
Speech-to-text tuned for the proper nouns and figures that appear in earnings calls. The latest model cuts errors by roughly 30% versus the previous one.
NERD - Entity Linking
Detects companies, securities, and concepts in text and links them to existing structured knowledge.
LLM-ready API (Deterministic Retrieval)
Query S&P Capital IQ Financials, earnings call transcripts, Company Intelligence, and private company financials in natural language, connecting from Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot through an MCP server. The data comes back pre-processed, so there is no reshaping work when embedding it in your own application.
Adaptive Retrieval
Launched in July 2026, it lets AI agents assemble multi-step requests that span several datasets automatically, complementing the existing Deterministic Retrieval path for focused structured queries.
S&P Global Agent Skills
Published as a plugin that gives AI agents financial skills, letting agentic workflows query Capital IQ financials, estimates, and earnings call transcripts directly.
Embedded in S&P Products
The Kensho Data Platforms group is making client interfaces such as Capital IQ Pro AI-native, powering features like its Document Intelligence tool.
