Meshy 7.1 doubles down on geometry detail.

Two weeks ago, 4K-level mesh detail meant reaching for a pricier competing tool. Meshy 7.1's new "Ultra 4K" mode — and a first-place finish on its own new benchmark — just moved that goalpost.

Why "detail" stayed a wall

Image-to-3D tools multiplied fast this year, but surface detail is the one spec that never quite caught up.

Tools that turn an image or a prompt into a 3D model have multiplied over the past year: Meshy, Tripo, Tencent's Hunyuan3D, Hyper3D's Rodin, Hi3D. Most converged on being fast and cheap — but the sculpted grooves, fabric wrinkles and fine mechanical cuts that make up actual geometric detail remained a stubborn gap between them.

Meshy 7.1, rolling out from September 10, 2026, added an "Ultra 4K" mode that raises geometry resolution from 2048³ to 4096³, moving to close that gap head-on. Per Meshy's own launch post, the raw mesh before simplification can carry up to 80 million triangles. The backdrop is an industry whose benchmark question has shifted from "can it generate a model?" to "how precise is that model?" — but for now, Ultra 4K only works from a single reference image; multi-view generation isn't supported yet.

Putting a number on "detail"

Meshy built its own metric and ran it against four rivals: Tripo 3.1, Hunyuan3D 3.1, Rodin 2.5 and Hi3D 3.0.

The metric is called "Detail Richness." Meshy renders each model from multiple angles at a fixed screen resolution, then measures the share of the surface whose orientation shifts enough within a single pixel to require anti-aliasing. Per VoxelMatters' coverage, the benchmark's input images were deliberately kept single-color and texture-free so the score can't be conflated with texture richness — it isolates geometry alone.

Meshy 7.1 topped all four rivals — Tripo 3.1, Hunyuan3D 3.1, Rodin 2.5 and Hi3D 3.0 — at every tested resolution: 1024px, 2048px and 4096px. Even at the tightest margin, the 4096px setting, it beat the runner-up, Hi3D 3.0 (21.9%), by just 1.2 points at 23.1%. Its per-object win rate at 4096px ranged 56–98%, which is a spread worth noting — this reads less like a blowout and more like a consistent, narrow edge.

Who It's For

The upgrade favors "finishing" work

The size of the benefit splits sharply by role and use case.

Designers & artists

Hero assets and close-up props get a real material-quality bump. But an 80-million-triangle raw mesh can't go straight into a game engine — retopology and UV work are still required.

Engineers & pipeline owners

API generation cost stays at 20 credits, so existing budget models carry over unchanged. Downloads still require a paid plan, so free-tier test pipelines can't exercise Ultra 4K.

The Fine Print

What not to overlook

This isn't an unqualified win. Detail Richness is a metric Meshy designed itself, not a third-party audit. Ultra 4K is single-view only for now, with no high-detail multi-view path yet. And an 80-million-triangle raw mesh still needs the same downstream retopology work it always did before it's production-ready. Topping a benchmark is a different claim from being drop-in usable at scale, and it's worth keeping those two apart.

Detail just became a new axis to compete on.
It's still only one axis.
