Material Creation Is AI's Most Forte Area
Proposals, slides, reports, weekly updates. These have a "there's a template + fill in content" structure, so AI is overwhelmingly strong. You can produce materials of equal or better quality in 1/3 the time of building from scratch.
3-Stage Material-Creation Flow
1. Have AI Make the Structure
Ask "a 6-chapter outline for a proposal about XX, with a 200-char overview per chapter." Once the skeleton exists, reorder/add items yourself.
2. Fill Each Chapter's Body with AI
Per chapter, give detailed instructions "500 chars about this chapter, include data on XX." Copy-paste into PowerPoint / Word.
3. Tidy It Yourself
Humans fix proper nouns, internal circumstances, latest info, tone. The part AI is bad at.
Techniques by Material Type
Proposal
- Request a 5-block "Why → What → How → assumed risks → ROI" structure
- Supplement competitor/market data with separate research (AI alone is inaccurate)
Presentation Slides
- Make AI keep the "1 slide = 1 message" principle
- Have it output each slide's title + 3 body lines + chart idea in Markdown
- With dedicated tools (Gamma, Tome) you can auto-generate slides from Markdown
Reports/Weekly Updates
- Template: "what done / results / issues / next week"
- Paste daily memos and ask "this in weekly-report format"
Generate Materials from Data
Uploading a CSV or spreadsheet to AI:
- Turn the table into Markdown
- Ask "what's visible if charted?" to draw out insights
- Have it propose "what to analyze next" as next actions
Evolution to Dedicated Tools
- Gamma: instant slide generation from prompts
- Tome: narrative-style presentations
- Beautiful.ai / Canva AI: auto-layout
Following articles in this chapter cover each one's complete guide.
Full Automation with an Agent
With Claude Cowork / Operator, by verbal instruction you can directly generate a PowerPoint file. File-name spec → save-location spec → sharing, end to end.
