Writing a Novel with AI 1: Building the Plot
The first hurdle in novel writing is the "plot (the story's skeleton)." AI is strong at structural sparring and dispels the blank-page anxiety. But the writer holds the initiative.
Build the Plot Foundation
Genre [XX], theme [XX], desired afterfeel [XX]. Make a skeleton in three-act structure with each act's purpose, turning points, and the protagonist's change. Give multiple options.
Patterns for Mastery
- Have AI organize "protagonist's lack → trials → change"
- Discuss "placement of climaxes so the middle doesn't sag"
- Have it produce 3 ending candidates and choose yourself
- Have it point out plot contradictions and convenient writing
The Stance to Keep
- Decide the theme and "core you want to write" yourself. Don't dump it on AI
- AI drafts are material; accept/reject by the author's aesthetic
- Be mindful it doesn't plagiarize existing works (see the later copyright chapter)
This Series' Flow
It proceeds: 1 plot → 2 character design → 3 chapter-by-chapter writing → 4 revision. AI is a companion; the story's author is you.
